One Response to Cardiff City Stadium’s greatest game?

  1. Mike Ellesmere says:

    Dear Paul,

This is one hell of a report – amazing stuff.

A while back, when a lot of stats looked great but the points total was miserable, I did some research that suggested strongly that any team that maintained very high possession of the ball and created a lot of good chances (high XG) but didn’t take them would most likely see an improvement in results. I didn’t think we would deviate much in the way we play but thought it almost inevitable that more chances would be taken. I think you can be unlucky over a relatively short period.

At the other end of the pitch, I thought, and still think, that we will improve if/when injured players return to full fitness. I am confident that this will turn out to be the case though we will never be watertight playing such a high line. Interestingly, on the way home (it’s a 200 mile round trip), I was listening to Forest v Man City and a commentator mentioned that the latter always risks conceding goals with 2 central defenders playing out wide with the full backs pushing on. Sounds very familiar.

Back to the game, which was turned on its head with the introduction of Salech. He has come in for a lot of what I call unjustified criticism. I love him, both as a player and as a person and I think we deserved to win.

I am looking up the table and think our team has so much potential playing a very exciting brand of the beautiful game.

Best regards to you and all City fans.
    Mike
