The BBC report said the first half was the worst half of football you’ll see at any level all season – the reporter clearly wasn’t at our home game against Preston earlier this season!
Just a few things I’ll add to your excellent report Paul:
    1. I was told that it was only the ref’s 3rd game at Championship level, and the other two had involved Hull (and he is from Yorkshire). He had experienced Premier league ref Sam Allinson as 4th official running the rule over him, which was probably why he wanted throw-ins and free kicks taken from the exact position. I didn’t think he got much wrong, except replays showed he should have booked the Hull attacker for going down in the box, when Horvath clearly pulled out of making a challenge.
    2. Rinhomota, who has played lots of games recently looked shattered in the second half, possibly explaining his poor 5-10 minutes, and fell to his knees at the final whistle.
    3. I’m wondering what team we’ll be able to put out against Villa, as I’m making the journey up and back on Friday. Although in truth I’m more concerned about the team we’ll put out against the other claret and blue team next Tuesday.
    A massive win though!

Thanks as ever Paul for a comprehensive report.
Here are my thoughts… in no particular order…

Let me breathe back in my suggestion that we never bought a proper centre back at the start of the season: I reckon that Will Fish was our Man of the Match last night. But was it a flash in the pan from him? Let’s hope not. Let’s see him up against Rogers, Rashford, Watkins & Co (I’d guess Villa’s sudden blip will mean Emery cannot risk rookies?)

Whether we beat the drop or not, surely come May, Riza will have to go? His tactical blindness can be staggering.

I say it because Rinomhota had a poor night (not just the 10 minutes you referred to). Ten minutes I too found stunning: where Andy’s mind was totally scrambled, and his wits were like they’d been in a cocktail shaker.

For sure the boy’s a trier, and he puts in 100% every game, but he is no right back. His defensive qualities are not there: he is so easily turned by opposing wingers and he makes one long for the tackling ability of a Phil Dwyer or – going even further back – the best of them all in my long years watching City… Peter Rodrigues.

But God bless the boy, when he had his nightmare spell, he busted a gut to try to redress the damage by twice chasing after his opponent nearly the length of the pitch. ‘Chapeau!’ to him for his effort.

But here is where Omer was guilty of shocking dereliction of duty. Surely a compassionate manager would take the boy off at that point? Had we used our full complement of subs by then? I don’t think so… but I fear I might get egg on my face here…!! Hope not… or I am gonna seem even more of a mug than usual.

Horvath in goal, quite impressed me last night with his kicking. He tried to find Salech’s head, and our new striker continued to offer our first real ability to properly contest aerial duels all season.

Finally, can we please have Robinson playing 5 yards BEHIND Salech… and not in front? I say it because had Hull decided to seriously adopt the offside trap, methinks Robbo would have had his usual problems.

    TTFN,
    Dai.
