When will we hear it?

The cuckoo has recently suffered a population decline in the UK which has seen it placed in the red list of endangered birds by the RSPB – this probably explains why I have not heard one at all in the last six years or so. Therefore, I have not heard a sound which is meant to signify the end of winter and the start of summer recently, but there is an indicator of the end of summer that is still going strong and has been for each of the last five years – it usually puts in it’s first appearance sometime in early September but has been heard occasionally in August. Whittingham’s very encouraging start to the season.

Results such as Cardiff 0 Barnet 2, Cardiff 2 Macclesfield 1 and Bournemouth 1 Cardiff 2 offered proof that ties against League 2 opposition in the early rounds of the Carling Cup in recent years are not the cakewalk that many expect them to be beforehand and so it proved again last night as City progressed into the Second Round with a 3-1 win over Dagenham and Redbridge – while the result was a fair one, the margin of victory flattered us.
