  1. Russell says:

Thanks Paul ,the rumours about Ledley are significant and are on many sites ,trouble being in only takes one rumour to start a dozen as the just lift the story from onew site to the next .

If Joe does return I would suggest his wages would have to be compensated by the removal of a big earner ie Manga or Whittingham, and where does that leave Gunnerson and Rolls in all this.

I try not to get to excited by the beefed up agent reports of how good this Paterson is , I clearly remember the wonderful Brayford arrival news , it doesn’t always work out, I do think though we have enough decent full backs ,perhaps he’s coming as a striker ,he’s bagged 34 ??

Agree with you for views on Hanley, let’s hope we save our dish on that one .

What we do need is different options up front and wide and pace .

I’m preying young Rhys makes it back he will seem like a new addition .

Why we don’t think about Sadii us a mystery to me .

Loan out players Huws, Kennedy and O’Keefe are players I think have good qualities

Like to ship out Noone ,Manga , Whitt’s and Pilks just to relive the wage bill and allow us to invest elsewhere .

Finally a good keeper us needed.

  2. Colin Phillips says:

Why the keenness to buy a full- back who has had a serious injury?

We already have three full-backs that are of a decent championship standard.

Would have thought the money could spent on a creative player whether wide or central.

Would be concerned about Lesley’s appetite for slogging through 46 games of championship football.

I like Hanley but again centre- backs are not what we are short of.

Keep the reports and rumours coming please, Paul.

  3. BJA says:

Paul – A little late to the party once more and am totally in sync. with your final paragraph. If I have a wish for this afternoon it is that Huddersfield triumph, not that I have any connections for either club but that Mark Hudson, one of our really decent guys of recent times, reaches the promised land once more. He was not the quickest, but he knew how to organise his defence, and he was an excellent captain. Wished he was still with us.
I see that a goalkeeper with whom we had been linked has signed for Brentford ( Luke Daniels ), and Derby are supposed to be interested in Grant Hanley ( they can have him ), and Harry’s bunch interested in Johnny Hayes. The clamour for the return of Joe Ledley bothers me somewhat as I am unsure what role he would play if we want an attacking midfielder. I understand there may well be emotional reasons for his return, but such reasons must be put aside.
If Patterson is to arrive in South Wales and becomes fully fit, then he could become a useful addition to the mid-field, but as I have mentioned previously, the Championship is a brutal league, and we need a few more younger, pacier players to help us through the season. On that subject, is young Weymans going to be with us next year, or has he been given the push.
One final piece of conjecture recently has seen NW linked with the Black Cats. Can’t see that happening though unless they arrange for a private jet service from a South Devon airport on a regular basis – gosh, just thought – could be possible!!!

  4. The other Bob Wilson says:

Apols for the delay in replying, more problems with the site I’m afraid.

Regarding Paterson Russel and Colin, I’d argue that he is a different type of full back to the ones we have already – if someone like Peltier represents one extreme of modern full back play, Paterson represents the other and I’d hope that a holding midfield pairing of Gunnarsson and Ledley (it was claimed on Twitter yesterday that he’d agreed personal terms with us) would be strong enough to allow players like Paterson and Bennett to get into more advanced areas.

BJA, you got your wish about Huddersfield (although, frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Mark Hudson leave them before the transfer window closes in the autumn). As mentioned above, I see Ledley as a sitting midfielder if he comes here and I reckon we will be looking, at the very least for another striker or number ten player as well.

On that score, I see we’ve been linked with Rotherham’s Danny Ward who I reckon could play either role (as well as out wide) and he is someone who I’ve long thought of a possible target for Warnock who was able to see what he did at close quarters last season. I think there may be something to these rumours and I’d rate them as more likely than the ones that have resurfaced about Jonny Hayes, whose value has probably gone up as a result of his Cup Final goal.

I agree with you about Warnock to Sunderland, seems a very unlikely one to me.
