  1. Dai Woosnam says:

    G’morning, Paul,

You end your fine piece by saying …
    ‘…
the greatest human being of my lifetime.
    …’

    Golly…that is SOME claim…!!

I could certainly go along with…
…the greatest SHOWMAN of our lifetime
…the greatest HEAVYWEIGHT BOXER of my lifetime
…the greatest AFRICAN-AMERICAN of my lifetime
    …no STRIKE that last one.
    He is not even that.
    Why not?
Because MARTIN LUTHER KING wins that contest, hands down. (And those last two words were a pun – in the Ali context – that was unintended, but which I will happily take !!)
…I have to say that MLK wins it worldwide for me, from Nelson Mandela and Albert Schweitzer.
    DW.

  2. The other Bob Wilson says:

I’ve not got much to say about my views as to “the greatest human being” because it is such a subjective thing with so much depending on the format you decide to judge an individual by. I don’t want to argue about this because it could end up sounding like I’m being critical of the people Dai named, but the fact that Ali was. for a significant part of his life, the most recognisable man/woman on the planet and, certainly compared to others who would qualify for that “accolade” wasn’t, despite the odd hiccup here and there, such a bad bloke on it, played a very big part in me reaching my decision.
