  1. Lindsay Davies says:

Paul, I agree with so much of this.
It was a thoroughly dispiriting occasion (especially, of course, for Seamus Coleman).
The football was pretty dreadful, absolutely mirroring that awful match v. Nthn Ireland at Euro ’16.
Wales, while clearly more accomplished than the Republic, seemed to lack fizz, pzazz, ideas, imagination, flexibility, pace, fitness – a bit like the Bluebirds under OGS/Slade/Trollope.
Maybe we have to recognise that this group achieved their apotheosis by reaching the Euros semis.
As for Neil Taylor, I thought he’d already started to show his limitations in France…and, he seems to have been a nervous wreck this season, not forgetting his petulant reaction to the noble Guidolin.
(Incidentally, I’m not holding my breath waiting for a manager to say “Well, actually, X is exactly that type of player.” Mark Dennis, Kevin Muscat?).
Ramsey – he needs to leave Arsenal instanter! Revive a potentially stellar career, becalmed in the Doldrums.

  2. Russell says:

I think Wales should get a PR man to do the post match conversations.

Ah well, back to the real stuff, com’n the City, looking forward to seeing Super Kev and a few old boys on Sunday.

  3. The other Bob Wilson says:

Thanks both for your replies.I think you might have got it right Lindsay about this group of players. Leicester may make a mug of me by winning the Champions League, but all logic says that summer 2016 was the time when they were all at a collective peak as club players and the same can be said for Wales as international players – hopefully, they can qualify for more Final tournaments, but I can’t help thinking that players such as Ashley Williams, Joe Ledley and David Edwards are on borrowed time now – Neil Taylor can be added to that list as well, not because of his age, but because I feel he’s going to find it hard to et back into the side once his suspension is over.
Russell, I’m looking forward to this afternoon’s match, I just hope the people of south Wales turn out in good numbers for a great City servant – last I heard, only the Grandstand was going to be open, shame on plenty of City fans if that turns out to be the case.

  4. Mike Herbert says:

I have to agree with the view that Neil Taylor seemed a troubled soul well before half time. Wales had great success playing with 2 wing backs and a back 3 when other sides attacked them and they played “on the break”. Against Ireland it was clear soon after the start – if not before – that they needed at least one more player who could cross the ball accurately after first controlling any long passes to them. Neil’s control let him down too often and By half time I was hoping that we would revert to a back 4 with Neil being replaced by a more skilful wingman. Alas it didn’t happen and I feel the foul and sending off were probably a result of his own frustration. But it certainly wasn’t all his fault – disappointing performances from some of our more highly rated players – apart from Joe Allen who I thought was easily the best player on the park – as well as our manager this time. To finish on a positive note: we fought hard to the end with our ten men and deserved the bit of luck to get a point.

I am definitely going to look up the book on City’s regeneration and will buy it if I can afford it after paying for Sky! I agree with your views on Sky’s football offering but, as a golf and rugby watcher as well I am staying with them for now. Also, living so far away, I am not in a position to buy a season ticket for City, so that is a kind of saving!
