A quiz on six decades of Cardiff City v Blackpool matches.

This section has ground to a halt in the last year or so for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I was beginning to run out of matches that I considered memorable enough to write on and second I got the distinct impression that there wasn’t much interest in what I was writing amongst this blog’s vast readership anyway!

However, I’m going to have a go at trying to revive things in the Memories section by setting a quiz before each first team match with a question about upcoming opponents from each of the six decades I’ve been following the club. Where possible, the questions will be about City matches with the team we are going to play, but this won’t always be possible so I’ll try and find some connection between the clubs from that decade. Anyway, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it because Blackpool are one of the sides we have played in each decade since the 60’s, so here goes – there’s no prizes and I’ll add the answers on the day after I set the questions.

60’s. City lost 3-1 at home to Blackpool in 1967/68 three days after playing a match in which capital city?

70’s. Which future Cardiff keeper denied us a win by making a string of superb saves in the 2-2 draw at Ninian Park in 1976/77?

80’s. Who was the Neath born match winner when City beat Blackpool 1-0 at home in 85/86?

90’s. Which Liverpool born right back scored for City against Blackpool in this decade.

00’s. Something happened in City’s home match with Blackpool in 07/08 which also occurred on a couple of other occasions during that season, but not since then – what?

10’s. Who made his only league start for us in a City v Blackpool game during this decade?

Answers

60’s. I’m afraid I must admit to a cock up here. I asked the question on the assumption that we played Blackpool after facing Moscow Torpedo in Tashkent (capital of Uzbekistan), but it turns out we didn’t – the game took place three days after we had beaten them in the replay played in Augsburg, sorry about that.

70’s. George Wood.

80’s. Wayne Curtis.

90’s. Trick question here, Blackpool’s Liverpool born full back Dave Burgess scored an own goal in the 1-1 draw between the sides at Ninian Park in the 91/92 season.

00’s. Steve McPhail scored.

10’s. Josh Magennis.

I’ll set a similar Birmingham City based quiz on here on Monday.
