Thanks for a great season of reports, Paul. You deserve a medal for your efforts.
It must have been pleasing for Russell to do the double on the team he supported in his boyhood.
I will leave your other esteemed contributors make their usual constructive comments on the team. I will do my usual thing of adding a bit from left field.
And hopefully give you all a smile.
And this is my contribution …

In the run up to the game, you asked a question re a famous Forest player with a great surname.
    Blatherwick.

Your question made me ponder on what was the greatest EVER name for a footballer?
And the answer just has to be the surname of the Dutch player who played for Celtic and Hull in the noughties.
I refer to Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink …!

And I recall the entry that won a TalkSports competition to find a song for his fans to sing.
The winning entry went – to the tune of Lily The Pink –

    LET’S DRINK, LET’S DRINK, LET’S DRINK,
    TO JAN VENNEGOOR OF HESSELINK,
    THE PLAYER WITH
    THE LONGEST NAY-AY-AME

Makes one feel privileged, eh, to be a member of the same species as the genius who thought THAT one up!?

    Kindest,
    Dai.

Thanks Dai and a thank you as well for your contributions throughout the season – if I get around to doing the piece I’m thinking of doing in the next week, then I’ll be borrowing from one of them!

Agree with you completely about Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink!

    Thanks for the thanks, Paul.
And be my guest, borrow what you wish. I regard it as an honour should you borrow anything I wrote.
    One other thing…
I should have added in my previous comment above, one salient fact that I omitted: the competition was for people to try to work that amazing long name into a song to be sung from the terraces!
And nearly everyone who entered, failed dismally.
Except that gifted wordsmith who was fortunately familiar with that classic from The Scaffold.

    Kindest,
    Dai.

Thank you Rhondda Blue and thank you for your contributions throughout the season – it’s been a definite plus for the blog that it has gained a small following of knowledgeable supporters who contribute on a regular basis without falling into the pettiness and name calling that you see so often on the messageboards.
