I always read with interest your Academy and under 18 reports, it’s a pity the club or local press dont show the same kind of dedication of reporting as you Paul.

Like you I do hope someday we start to see these lads appear in the first team squad.

A player who has impressed me, albeit briefly online, is Lloyd Humphries. I’m interested to know what you think having seen a lot more of him than me.

Sorry for not replying earlier Clive. Lloyd Humphries scored a superb volley the first time I saw him play and so I had him marked down as one to watch from that moment on. He’s a player who Vincent Tan would like because he needs no second invitation to shoot once he is within thirty five yards of goal and he has the technique and power to deliver from such distances at times as well. However, for me, he occasionally shoots when he could play in better placed colleagues, but, hardly surprisingly for a youth player, when shooting or passing, he looks for the spectacular over the effective, but more simple, play at times.
He’s playing in a deeper midfield role this season and I sometimes think he could be used more effectively further up the pitch, but he’s doing a good job for the team now as the sitting midfielder and he was a major reason for them keeping a rare clean sheet on Saturday. He’s probably one of the older players in the current Under 18s team, so it might be that a decision will have to be made soon as to whether he should be awarded a first professional contract or not. He’d get one if it was my decision to make, because I think he has something about him – seems to me that he’s getting better at the parts of the game he, perhaps struggled with earlier, and I’m sure the, minor, criticisms I’ve made of him here can be sorted out as he gets older.

Thanks for that Paul. He sounds promising enough for numerous loan spells before being given away (cynical- moi?).
