I am holding my hands uo to be shot. Quicker and less painfull than hanging
i didn’t think we would win a game.
I was ultra critical of a nervous team and manager after the England match. Ok they were but last night they proved me wrong and have probably got the rest of the teams praying they dont face them, before the final that is.
I believe now those teams who could face us in the next round will do their best to be second just to avoid us.
I am so disappointed i am not out there. I was at that fame in 76 then at anfield for the scots handball. Our bus driver left us there as he was so frightened of all the scots. So jump train rides home, port Talbot station gone 8am and straight to work.
hip op has prevented me going out in my motor home.
    Anyway, back to game.
Professional performance by a group of players who are a team. (No I in team Sturridge, doing your lone, look at me jig after scoring). Bale may not have been too far off the mark with his comments.
We only have to look at Leicester to see what team work can bring you.
Wales are not about individuals or even team but a whole squad. All celebrating together after the game. Even if there was a show of indivuality when Ledley was showing off his night clubbing prowess. Look out ladies.
so well done brilliant news for the fans of the round ball in Wales and if it ends after the next game the can come home proud, heads held high with what they have achieved.
Ps. Lets hope Paul Trollope starts to invest in city with welsh talent. Either from the squad or bringing through youngsters.

What a wonderful night! After watching Wales since the days of Billy Meredith (feels like) that not only has to be the best win, but the best Wales performance I can remember in my lifetime. It’s difficult to pick anybody out but I thought Joe Allen was amazing with Bale and Ramsey not far behind. We’ve also shown supporters of other countries how to behave and enjoy themselves. Talking of which, Jason Cundy on TalkSport two nights ago described Wales as the Dog & Duck pub team – I wonder if he was in there celebrating last night?
Finally, I must apologise for some curmudgeonly old bugger coming on here the other day and posting negative stuff about Chris Coleman – obviously I would never do such a thing ?.

Today is my birthday and yesterday’s magnificent performance was as good a present as any I’ve ever received in my now three-score years and ten. Three goals all created by skilful open play, lots of “joined-up football going forward, and a defence which, apart from one occasion, was never threatened by the aerial attack we thought might be coming from the Russians. Congratulations to the backroom staff as much as to the players — the wonderful men with a flying machine — and to the enthusiastic crowd, including the choir.

  4. Russell says:

Thanks for the match summary, you have again covered the main points well , of a terrific victory , and more importantly crammed with skill ,free flowing football .

Like Paul I thought we would not win after the England game, where I did feel we were second best, to a young decent team.

Joe Allen in my opinion has been the stand out consistent performer, in this tournament for Wales , and against a Russia team that gave him so much room he and Ledley moved the ball so well at pace, whcih was for me the key difference from the last two games.

The defense to a man did their job simply and well , all of this played into the hands of Ramsey and Bale and the supporting role Vokes supplied , who impressed me, considering his lack of game time .

Russia were a very poor side, their body language at times was shocking for such a proud nation ( perhaps they should have picked few ultras for some bite ) and the fiasco of the captains arm band switch ,displayed a team devoid of spirit , again at the final whistle the players did not really join their keeper to say thanks for the support, summed them up really .

However it was a Welsh team that turned up and delivered , found their man , moved the ball at pace, and supporting one another right across the field of play , and put those key tackles in when needed .

Simply a stunning performance , one of the best I’ve seen, up their with the wins against Italy and Germany many moons ago.

Thanks once again for the concise report .

  5. Adrian Lloyd Pickrell says:

Happy birthday Anthony!!! I have watched all three games in the sun here on Fuerteventura amongst international spectators. I am pretty good at languages and it was so wonderful to hear the praise being rained down on Wales in different foreign languages. A rare event in international football and I loved it. Here we seem to be everyones favourite second Team… At least amongst the Germans, Italians and Spanish.

  6. The other Bob Wilson says:

Yes, I’ve just been reading an article about the reaction towards Wales’ performance in the European press Adrian – from what I read there seems to be a fifty/fifty split between saying complimentary things about us and savaging the Russians!
Thank you for your kind words Russell – there are times when writing reports on games on here can be something of a chore, but this one was the complete opposite. You make a good point about the captain’s armband incident – it was so revealing.
I agree that Joe Allen has probably been our player of the tournament so far, but he’s coming under pressure now from Ramsey and Bale, while there are also strong challenges from Chester and Davies. The thing is that there are others (e.g. Gunter, Ledley, Robson-Kanu and Jonny Williams) who have done well also and we are far from being the one man team that some want to paint us as being – I see we are still top scorers after last night’s matches and someone is going to have score at least four today to take that mantle from us.
Belated Happy Birthday greetings AMO – love the flying machine line!
Clive, from what I can remember, Jason Cundy was very much a “Dog and Duck” type centre half. Good to see you and Paul saying what you have about Coleman who, whatever happens from now on, has done a very good job overall as manager.
Regarding Daniel Sturridge, I saw an article somewhere describing England’s pre match warm up on Monday when they had one of those sessions where the strikers take shots at goal in the same way as the City players do in the corner of the Canton and Ninian stands. Anyway, Adam Lallana missed with all of his efforts, Jamie Vardy only scored with one of them and the best at it, by some way, was Wayne Rooney who now plays in a position where he very rarely gets a chance to show his shooting prowess – as for Sturridge he didn’t score either, but that was because he wasn’t involved in the exercise having, apparently, decided that it wasn’t for him!
