  1. Barry cole says:

I don’t think watt will make any difference because of slades stupid system. It’s obvious to me that he isn’t geared to scoring goals and just contained. If anyone has created a lack of belief in all our strikers then it’s slade. The sooner he is out the better. We have the team but not the manager

  2. The Blogmeister par excellence has done it again – an incisive piece of reportage and a concisely brilliant final sentence which highlights what many Cardiff supporters must now be thinking about our new short-term signing – a potential talent but a wayward personality. (I should also like to mention the man-of-the match judgement that Alex Revell received for his all-round display and excellent goal for Wigan. It emphasises what Barry Cole points out above – namely, that Cardiff are not geared to scoring goals. So, can it be that the bad press and snide remarks Revell has received from his time so far at Cardiff is due more to the system than to the man himself? Or even, that his performances have been criticised in certain quarters as a smoke and mirrors effort to divert attention from the man lauded as our “best marksman”?)

Thanks both for your replies. I think Barry makes a fair point, our current tactical approach is hardly conducive to us having strikers who are confident in their play. In fact, if I were a City striker faced with a decent scoring chance, it would be in my head that I have to put it away because who knows when the next one will come along – anyone putting themselves under that sort pressure of pressure must be more likely to miss the rare chances that come their way.

Anthony, with regard to Russell Slade and Alex Revell, I think their cause at Cardiff has not been helped by the pretty widespread conviction among supporters that they are lower league performers who are out of their depth at this level.

Nearly fourteen months on, I find it very hard to argue with those who said that about the former when he was appointed – if we wanted a “safe pair of hands” who would stabilise things on the pitch and help balance the books somewhat, then maybe we got that, but the target now is top six and, with each passing game, he seems incapable of delivering that.

I’d argue it’s a bit different with Revell, he is Championship standard in some aspects of his game and, when he does score for us, they tend to be good goals, but, although the way we play doesn’t help, his critics only have to point to his overall scoring record here to justify their stance.
