  1. Clive Harry says:

Morning All, I had a mild rebuke elsewhere for describing last night as shambolic which with hindsight may have been justified criticism because the first half wasn’t too bad at all. However, I think my comments were cumulative based on the seemingly disorganised mess we have been faced with at U23 level on a number of occasions this season. The second half last night was a microcosm of what we’ve witnessed before with trialists mixed in with youngsters resulting in a complete lack of cohesion and four second half goals conceded. I agree with Paul that there does not appear to be any development pathway for young players at present with the side reminding me on occasions of a parks team which has to check how many have turned up on the day before picking up a few ‘strappers’ to make up the number – our recent game at home to Bristol City featuring a side with five trialists and only a keeper on the bench being a perfect example of this. This means that genuinely promising youngsters such as Cameron Coxe, Rhys Abbruzese and James Waite have little chance to shine. Waite in particular has good technique and finishing ability but a player as small in stature as he is being played up front on his own to plough a furrow as a lone striker must be soul destroying. Being generous, I can only assume that there is a change of direction in mind for the future because things surely can’t go on all season like this.
Finally, Palace last night featured Jordan Mutch in midfield who many fans feel we should have made an attempt to sign – all I can say is ‘Mutch ado about nothing’ on last night’s evidence.

  2. The other Bob Wilson says:

I think you’re right to mention those three players Clive and I’d add the name Jamie Veale to them – I think he and James Waite are doing little more than treading water this season and if that sounds as if I’m being critical of them, I don’t mean to be, because I blame the policy that’s been adopted for Under 23 matches this season and a pitch at Leckwith that is poorer than usual for that.
