    Hi Other Bob.

I have only been going since 1987 so I haven’t been lucky enough to see all of those on the list, but I would argue that Ray Daniel (from the late 80s, not the earlier one) was our most talented left back in my time….until Kevin McNaughton came along. I know he didn’t play at the level we are at now, but relative to the league we were in his skills going forward (not to mention his solid defending) were a joy to watch (as an aside, wasn’t he one of the players that Len Ashurst described as the “cancer” in the club?)

That’s not to say Barker isn’t worth a place in the top 10, but for me, Super Ray Daniel would be right up there (I could also argue a case for Ian Rogerson in his first spell, but not right now I won’t).

Hello Phil. Daniel was one I gave consideration to and his fellow full back in that side Ian Rodgerson was another, but, I couldn’t get the fact that they had both been regulars in a team that had been relegated from the old Third Division out of my mind. Apart from Mark Delaney, who very quickly proved himself at Premiership level after leaving us, all of the players I picked did the business for us at our current level and, as I said in the piece, I think someone who played for us in the lower divisions would have to have been fantastic to get into the top ten – Daniel was a good full back at Third Division level, but I don’t think he was a fantastic one.

Daniel was definitely one of the players who was a “cancer” in the club – I can’t be sure now, but I think Rodgerson might have been the other one.
