Great post
I really enjoyed thinking about the signings of that season, it certainly was a scramble to rebuild a squad.
Do you remember Andrea Ferretti? The next “big thing” of Italian football who was reccomended by Alex Ferguson?! I always thought he should have been given a chance, especially when striking options were so limited – the same could have been said about Stuart Fleetwood (although his status in the game now suggests that he wasn’t good enough).
Other “quality” captures worth mentoining were defenders Neil Cox, who had a good habbit of imploding under pressure and full back Jermaine Darlington, who had a great start to the season, then had one nightmare game and almost dissapeared of the face of the earth.
Good to see Rhys Weston’s name in the lineup as well, I always though he had a raw deal from the majority of the crowd, although not the best of defenders, he did see of about 4/5 rival right backs to always fight back and re-claim his place. Much like Alexander really in the goalkeeping department.
Thanks Jon. I used to watch Ferretti quite often back in the days when we had a reserve team and he always looked quite useful at that level – he never did much to convince me that he was first team material though when he was given a chance at that level.
Actually I’ve just Googled Ferretti and he is currently playing for Pavia in Lega Pro Seconda Divisione
